Description

Writing & Performing Monologues (An Intensive for Teens & Young Adults) (Winter 2021)

Sunday:  Jan 31

1:00pm - 4:00pm Central Time
Instructor: James Leo Ryan

Leap in with this one day workshop, designed specifically for teens and young adults!  In this 3 hour youth workshop, students will write an original monologue that incorporates specific, universal themes, but comes from their own individual perspective and experience.  Once written, students will apply Uta Hagen-based character work, and then perform their monologues for their course mates.  This course is aimed at encouraging those taking it to reflect on their own experiences, to write with intention and specificity, and to share that experience in a way that allows the listeners to relate and create specific images in their own minds.  Take the leap--sign up today.

JAMES LEO RYAN splits his time between NYC and LA, where he has been fortunate to have a career that includes Broadway, television, and film.  James is also a proud member of the National Alliance of Acting Teachers, and has been a Teaching Artist all over the U.S., including University of Northern Colorado, Hofstra University, Arizona State University, Pomona College, Broadway Artists Intensive, Camp Broadway, The Colony Theatre, and the Joffrey Ballet School.  James is currently on faculty at ACANY, where he teaches Scene Study, Acting for Television, Audition Technique, Script Analysis, Voice & Speech, and numerous Broadway Boot Camps and Pre Professional Programs throughout the summer.  As a private coach, James not only prepares prospective college students for performing arts programs, his on-camera clients have booked series regular, recurring, and guest starring roles on a variety of network television shows.

Classes will be held via Zoom. Instructors will send out Zoom invites one day before class begins. We encourage students to set up a Zoom account for themselves before class if they have not already to ensure when class begins you are able to jump straight into the art!
