Chicago Dramatists is very excited 2nd annual La Nuit D'Amour Dramatique will take place via Twitch stream August 29th at 7:00pm CST!

Hosted by Kate Flannery (aka Meredith Palmer of NBC’s The Office), this event celebrates dramatic writers and the love affair audiences have with the fictional characters they create. This year’s event will focus on the story behind the story, taking a deep look at what was going on in the writers’ mind when creating characters.

The virtual event is free and will feature a packed schedule of insider interviews, original songs, an exclusive script reading, and more!

“The event is designed to pay homage to the creative process and how we relate to each other,” says Chicago Dramatists board chair, Michael J. Keating. “Unlike the typical custom ball, this year we invite guests to come as they are and join us from the comfort of their computer. We will go on a creative journey of personal passion in character development. This is a rare event for true theatre lovers, an opportunity to hear writers describe their challenges as they create characters who audiences care about.

The event includes one-on-one interviews with many incredible playwrights:

  • Martyna Majok, who won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for her play Cost of Living;
  • Alice Austen--who’s work script was made into the award-winning film Give Me Liberty;
  • Lydia R. Diamond--a resident playwright alumn who will be talking about the Lydia R. Diamond New Play Award;
  • and Sue Pak, who’s play Miguk Saram is a National Playwrights Conference 2020 finalist at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center. The event will also include a scene from Miguk Saram as well as a conversation among the playwright, actors, and director.

The event is completely free! Simply register here and you'll receive an email as the date approaches with a link to join the stream. We will be raising money for our partnership programs with Chicago HOPES for Kids and Literacy Chicago, Lydia R. Diamond New Play Award, Racism & Inequality Free Class Series, Tutterow FellowshipMEH Lewis Memorial Fund, and First Draft Reading Series. You can learn more and donate to any of these ahead of time by clicking those links, or you can donate at the event with your phone using our new Text2Give feature.

From all of us at Chicago Dramatists, thank you so much for your continued support. We'll see you on the 29th!
