True Storytelling (Summer 2020)

Aug 06 - Sep 17
6:00pm - 9:00pm Central Time

Instructor: Janna Sobel

Storytelling belongs to all of us. It lives in our DNA. This 7-week online storytelling
class highlights what you already know about great storytelling, and covers easy-to-master tools that enhance your natural abilities. Ideal for performers, public speakers, and professionals of all kinds, this class covers skills that you can use in general and professional communication, along with strengthening your ability to tell engaging, entertaining, motivating personal stories. Using dynamic games and exercises, participants overcome performance anxiety and gain confidence in their authentic presence. Participants also develop 3 stories over the course of the workshop and receive direct, constructive feedback. Class is fun, supportive, challenging, and transformative: a solid way to connect and play during this unusual time. On the final night of class, students will present their work in an online Live Storytelling show that lets them invite friends and family.

Janna Sobel is a writer, performer, and long-time teacher of Storytelling, Acting, and Improvisation. In her private coaching practice, she uses storytelling and improvisation tools to help all kinds of groups create better together, and individuals to communicate better. Janna teaches Improv at The Second City Training Center, Live Storytelling at Chicago Dramatists, and Creative Leadership at The Innovation Academy at The University of Notre Dame, and for The Leadership Studio at The University of Chicago Booth School. She has taught for iO Chicago, Stage 773, Columbia College, The Young Non-Profit Professionals Network, and for companies across the USA. Janna produces and hosts the creativity-inducing game Intuitive Treasure Hunter, and the community-building event Here, Chicago.

Classes will be held via Zoom. Instructors will send out Zoom invites one day before class begins. We encourage students to set up a Zoom account for themselves before class if they have not already to ensure when class begins you are able to jump straight into the art!
