Playwrights Aloud February 2nd

Get your head in the game! Keep your eye on the ball! Escape your family's Super Bowl Party by coming to the first themed Playwrights Aloud!

Playwrights Aloud is a new Reading Series at Chicago Dramatists of short scripts by emerging playwrights. Playwrights Aloud will take place on the first and third Sunday of every month and will provide music stand readings of five new 10min Plays by emerging playwrights.

Each night, actors will have the opportunity to come in and audition at 6:00pm. The shows will be cast that night, rehearsed that night, and performed that night at 8:00pm followed by a brief talk-back. Please note that the beginning of the actual readings has moved from 7:30pm to 8:00pm in order to allow more time for rehearsal.

This week's Playwrights Aloud is themed "Play Ball!" so all scripts have a sport or game at the center of their story.

For actors interested in being a part of the reading: Participants need to arrive at 6:00pm, at which point they will read sides from each of the plays, and then be cast accordingly. After 40 minutes of rehearsal, the reading will begin at 8:00pm! Register here as an actor to let us know you're coming ready to work!

For those interested in being audience members: the readings will begin at 8:00pm and will go until around 9:15 followed by a talk back.

For playwrights who would like to submit to future readings: Our next reading will take place on February 16th and will be open to any 10min play with 1-5 characters. Submissions for the 16th can be sent to grust@chicagodramatists.org by February 8th at 11:59pm. Our next themed reading will be on March 1st, and the theme is: "Smash the Locks: Freeing the Wrongfully Imprisoned" and submissions will be due February 22nd at 11:59pm, so get thinking and get writing!
