Description

Page to Stage: Solo Show & Storytelling

Aug. 17 - Sept. 28
6:00pm - 9:15pm

Instructor: Arlene Malinowski

This workshop is for actors, storytellers and playwrights who want to work on the development of a one-person show or long-form story and get it on a stage. Each week you have an opportunity to develop material with the goal being to advance to production readiness. You will also have the opportunity to work with an acting coach and director. If you wish an actor will be hired to perform your work. The class offers structure, supportive feedback and cheerleading. It is designed to serve you, your creative goals and I promise we'll have Big Fun! The course culminates with a live presentation of student work on October 15.

Arlene’s been performing and teaching Solo & Story for over 25 years, and views her solo work as an artistic expression of her social justice work in the area of Deafness and disability. Plays include: A Little Bit Not Normal, Full Disclosure, Aiming for Sainthood, What Does the Sun Sound Like, Interrobang, and Where All of it is True and None of it is Real. Theaters include: Victory Gardens, Pritzker Pavilion, 16th Street theater, West Coast Ensemble, and Minneapolis Arts center, among others.  Arlene is the recipient of 3 Arts/UIC fellowship, and a semi-finalist for the O’Neill.  She’s performed on stages in LA and Chicago including Goodman, 16th Street, Victory Gardens.
