Description

Ten Minute Play (Network Exclusive) (Winter 2021)

Mar 02 - Apr 13
6:00pm - 9:00pm Central Time

Instructor: Neil Blackadder

How do you tell a complete and satisfying story in only ten minutes?  This class, offered exclusively to Network Members is a deep dive into the intricacies and nuances of writing in this precise, compact form.  Explore the many elements of the ten minute play, including structure, character motivation, diction, and more.  Neil Blackadder is an international translator and director, who's translations have been staged in New York, London, Chicago, and have been widely published.  He strives both to honor writers’ imaginations and to help them to embrace a variety of ways to tell stories on stage, and looks forward to working with playwrights from the Network.

Neil Blackadder is a translator of drama and prose from German and French, specializing in contemporary theatre, and recently retired from a 25-year career teaching theater at Knox College and Duke University. Neil’s translations have been staged in New York, London, Chicago, and elsewhere, and widely published. Playwrights Neil has translated include Lukas Bärfuss, Rebekka Kricheldorf, Ewald Palmetshofer, Ferdinand Schmalz, Mishka Lavigne, and Thomas Arzt. He is also the author of Performing Opposition: Modern Theater and the Scandalized Audience.

Classes will be held via Zoom. Instructors will send out Zoom invites one day before class begins. We encourage students to setup a Zoom account for themselves before class if they have not already to ensure when class begins you are able to jump straight into the art!
