Description

Playwriting For Teens:  Writing the One Page Play (Fall 2020)

Dec 02 - Dec 16
4:30pm - 6:00pm Central Time

Instructor: Cassandra Rose

In this playwriting class geared specifically towards high schoolers, students learn how to write a full play in one page. And then do it again. And again. And again. At the end of the course writers will each have 3 brand new plays, freshly written. And at the end of the class, they will get to see their best work read by professional Chicago actors! Perfect for both young writers that have never written a play before and for those that have written quite a few.

Cassandra Rose:  This bisexual playwright has had over 300 of her plays performed across the US. That includes the hundreds of short plays she wrote and produced as part of The Dictionary Project. Each dictionary play was written for someone based on their suggestion and a random word in the dictionary. Her longer plays include The Amen Trilogy, The Battle of Charlottesville, Billy to His Friends, and The Volunteer. Her work has been developed and produced by Broken Nose Theatre, Chicago Dramatists, City Theatre, Jackalope Theatre Company, The New Colony, and Stage Left Theatre. Cassandra also helped found the Chicago Theatre Marathon and Cold Basement Dramatics. Girl gets around. Cassandra earned her BA in playwriting from Columbia College Chicago, did an MFA alternative program at Chicago Dramatists as a Tutterow Fellow, and recently graduated from UCLA's Professional Program with a certificate in Writing for Television

Classes will be held via Zoom. Instructors will send out Zoom invites one day before class begins. We encourage students to set up a Zoom account for themselves before class if they have not already to ensure when class begins you are able to jump straight into the art!
