Instructor: Connie Kuntz

Dive deep into the fantastic world of radio theater with Connie Kuntz, host of State of the Artist and WNIJ Reporter, the NPR station for northern Illinois.  Podcasts and audio plays have never been more vital than they are right now.  Learn how to write and edit a play for radio using Zoom and Adobe Audition!--create work that can be crafted and shared now.  All writers will finish the course with a rough cut of the radio play they created together during the class.

Writers will start by collaborating on a short radio script, which will be cast from the students in the class. Using Zoom, Connie will record the student plays, and then walk the class step-by-step through the editing process. You’ll learn how to cut, mixdown, convert, and add music to their radio play, using Adobe Audition. As the culminating event of this class, the radio play created in the bootcamp will be presented via Zoom as a “rough-cut”-- that is, a rough draft of the finished product. Students are welcome and encouraged to invite friends, family, and professionals to this presentation!

Having personal access to Adobe Audition is not required to take this class. You will learn all the skills needed through screen share on how to edit and mix a radio play via Adobe Audition.

Connie Kuntz is a reporter, digital editor, and host of the arts series State of the Artist for 89.5 WNIJ, the NPR station for northern Illinois. Most recently, she wrote plays for Rockford Area Arts Council, was the editor of The Rockford Review from 2010-2019, the president of Rockford Writers' Guild, and host of the literary podcast Guildy Pleasures. She has also written plays, monologues, and fundraising scripts for a variety of non-profits like Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center, Rockford Dance Company, and Tinker Swiss Cottage. She is workshopping plays that explore notorious events that are revered in Illinois. Hotbed is the first in this series. Connie is a Network Member of Chicago Dramatists and regularly contributes to Naked Angels Tuesdays@9 Chicago. Connie has a bachelor's degree in theatre from Cornell College.

Classes will be held via Zoom. Instructors will send out Zoom invites one day before class begins. We encourage students to setup a Zoom account for themselves before class if they have not already to ensure when class begins you are able to jump straight into the art!
