Secret Life of the American Musical  Led by award-winning musical theatre writer Cheryl Coons, “Musical Theatre: the Secret Life of the American Musical,” offers bookwriters, lyricists,and composers tools for powerful storytelling and inspired songwriting.

Appropriate for both experienced musical writers and those who are exploring writing a musical and want to study the form, this course offers practical information on dramatic structure and song plot, as well as a unique method of mapping the story action against the score. You'll study examples from a variety of musical masterworks- from Gypsy to Hamilton, as well as sharing your original work for feedback in a supportive atmosphere. Whether you've written a number of musicals and want a fresh perspective on your work, or you're embarking on your first project and want to learn what makes musicals tick, this class will offer you insight, inspiration and camaraderie as you create.
